BC Child Support Calculator — Federal Child Support Guidelines. Child support in British Columbia is calculated using the Federal Child Support Guidelines, which set out table amounts based on the paying parent's gross annual income and the number of children requiring support. The table amounts are derived from the BC column of the federal child support tables. In addition to table amounts, both parents may share section 7 special and extraordinary expenses, which include childcare costs, medical and dental expenses, post-secondary education costs, and extracurricular activities. Section 7 expenses are typically shared in proportion to each parent's income. In shared parenting arrangements where the child spends at least 40 percent of the time with each parent, child support may be adjusted based on both parents' incomes and the costs of the shared arrangement. When a paying parent is self-employed, has significant business income, or has income that is difficult to verify, the court may impute income to ensure that child support reflects actual financial capacity.
